Under the witness of all the leaders of Cuba University of the East and the education delegation of Hebei Foreign Studies University(HFSU), Academician Sun Jianzhong, Chairman and President of HFSU, and Dr. Deana, President of Cuba University of the East successfully signed the framework agreement on international cooperation. Both parties reached a number of cooperation intentions in the fields of International Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, Computer Science, Medicine and Biophysics, Biomedicine, Neuroscience, Global Chinese Learning Center, etc.
On the morning of February 5th local time in Cuba, the education delegation of HFSU arrived to the second largest city in Cuba, and visited the Cuba University of the East. Dr. Deana, the president of the school, together with other five Vice Presidents of the University, the director of International Department, 13 department Deans, two scientific research and innovation units and the media center, warmly welcome and received Academician Sun Jianzhong, along with his delegation which came from HFSU, China.

Sun Jianzhong, Academician and the President of HFSU introduced the current language construction of the HFSU, international exchange and cooperation model, research and achievements in education and teaching, personnel training mode, Global Chinese Learning Center, and China's "Belt and Road" National Institute of Social Economy and Cultural to the President of Cuba University of the East.

Academician Sun Jianzhong, President of HFSU, expressed his gratitude to President Dr. Deana, and her team of the school for the warmly welcoming. Academician Sun said that: “At present, I am very happy that HFSU has successfully cooperated with the world-famous university, and Cuba's national first-class university – the University of the East. Especially thanks for the fully support by President Dr. Deana on the cooperation between the two universities. This will further boost the development of International Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of HFSU. Let's work together to gather the top professional advantages of Cuba and Chinese universities, joint effort to build an International Artificial Intelligence Institute, and make a contribution to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba in 2020, so that our scientific research achievements can be landed in both China and Cuba, this will benefit both Cuban and Chinese people to share the results of our cooperation.”

Accompanied by Dr.Deana, President of the Cuba University of the East, and relevant leaders, the education delegation of HFSU visited the Medicine and Biophysics Center, the National Center for Applied Electromagnetics, the Research Center for Neuroscience, Image and Signal Processing Center, and the Engineering Departments and etc. In the National Center for Applied Electromagnetics, Academician Sun Jianzhong, the President of HFSU, Academician Yaile, the President of International Artificial Intelligence Institute, and the Directors of the Center for Medical and Neuroscience, and Image and Signal Processing Center of the University of the East, together discussed the application of neuroscience in artificial intelligence, and reached preliminary research direction and cooperation intention.
Cuba University of the East was founded in 1947 in Santiago, Cuba, it is the second university founded by the Cuban state. It is a comprehensive public university dedicated to undergraduate, postgraduate education, scientific research and social services. It is one of the most famous universities in Cuba, one of the five first-class universities in Cuba, and an important member of the Latin American University Alliance. It has been directly cared and guided by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. After Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez was elected as the president in 2019, he visited University of the East twice. That is to say, from the success of the Cuban revolution to the present, the highest leadership of Cuba directly participates in the construction and development of the University of the East, and attaches great importance to the position and role of the University of the East in Cuba's national education system and foreign exchange. In 2020, University of the East is expected to become the national cultural heritage unit of Cuba.
University of the East has two campuses (Antonio Marceau and Julio Antonio Mellia), there are 63 undergraduate majors in eight teaching sites and 13 departments, 15 of which are national first-class majors, 27 master's majors, 14 of which are national first-class majors, and nearly 30 doctoral majors.
