The 6th China International Logistics Development Conference(CILDC) was grandly held in Shijiazhuang, Hebei on October 17th and 18th. The theme is "Interconnected, Coordinated and Development". Conference is focusing on the implementation of the country's major strategy for the construction of an important national trade and logistics base in Hebei. Meanwhile, promoting more opportunities for Hebei's development, focusing on the key areas of cooperation, and planning major projects cooperation.

In the 6th China International Logistics Development Conference, Hebei Froeign Studies University(HFSU) had 18 teachers and 50 students as the interpreting volunteers for different languages, and provided simultaneous interpretation and accompanying translation services for the conference needs.

Since October 15th, foreign guests from all over the world have come to Shijiazhuang one after another. Wang Lifeng, the Dean of German-French Language College and Bai Jie the teacher of English College allocated 50 volunteer students of HFSU in airport, train station, hotel, and conference hall to offer their best services in pick up, hotel guidance, registration, room check in, and interpreting services. Students' excellent spoken and enthusiastic services make foreign guests feeling at home, and their confidence and excellent interpreting communication skills with foreign guests brought a huge shocked and confirmation from the organizer of the CILDC.  Many student elites like An Junjie, Luo Jiancheng, Bai Yi, Yang Wenzhuo, Jiang Wen, Li Jiawei, Kang Yunjiang has sprang up. “He is our ‘mainstay’, able to take care of many foreign guest just by his own, he was very helpful!” said the leaders of the CILDC.

There were 12 excellent volunteer students together with 13 outstanding English teachers from HFSU like Zhang Qiujie, Li Ruisi, Guo Yuling, Li Yaping, Du Yiran, Bai Jie, Wang Yuan, Liang Ye, Tian Jingjie, Wang Lin, Wu Yujing, He Lulu, and Li Lin attended the evening dinner on October 16th for the consecutive interpreting for the governor leaderships and the foreign guests. Ten minutes before the dinner officially start, the relevant materials were given to interpreter Zhang Qiujie and Li Ruisi, which was a great pressure on them to enter the dinner hall and to do the interpretation. With their efficiency interpreting skills and their powerful psychological quality, they guaranteed a smooth start for this wonderful dinner. Zhang Qiujie, interpreted the welcome speech of Secretary Xing Guohui, the member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee. Li Ruisi interpreted for Vice Mayor Li Xuerong. Both of them did an extraordinary interpreting for the provincial leaders through the whole event.

Throughout the event, from the welcome speech to the table communication between Chinese governors and foreign guests, HFSU’s teachers and students performed a high level standard interpretation. Teacher Zhang Qiujie also won the appreciation from the leader of Hebei Provincial Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee for her fluent and standard English accents and flexible on-site translation skills. The governor Xu Qin of Hebei province also praised her while the interpreting. He asked where does Zhang Qiujie came from, and she said she was a teacher form HFSU, and she is the one who responsible for the interpretation over the dinner and the CILDC event. Governor Xu Qin confirmed the ability of all the interpreters form HFSU, and appreciated for our help on CILDC event. With the encouragement of the governor, all teachers and students of HFSU feels very worth for the efforts they have contributed.

After the dinner is over, all the teachers and students were very excited and exchanged their interpreting experiences over the night until 23:00 they reached home and school. Dean Wang Lifeng and Bai Jie, as the lead of the volunteer students, returned home after they have confirmed all the students have returned to university safely. Even it is the first time for HFSU’s teachers and students to take over such huge scale international level event for ICLDC, but this “First Battle” was a beautiful one.

The main core of the ICLDC was the opening ceremony, theme summit and sub forum which located in Zhengding International Exhibition Center on October 17th, the Dean of English College Gao Zhihuai, and teacher Zhang Qiujie, Li Ruisi, Shi Jie, Xu Ping, and Anna were responsible for the simultaneous interpretation of 24 different topics over the conference sub-forum. Zhang Qiujie, Li Ruisi, and Shi Jie were the simultaneous interpretation group for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Summit Forum, and Dean Gao Zhihuai, Teacher Xu Ping, and Anna are the simultaneous interpretation groups for the China Business Logistics and Logistics City Cooperation Forum. Due to the absent of the conference materials, too many things to work on and too little time to prepare, our teachers “roots” in the Democracy Hall of the HFSU every morning and night. The last evening right before the conference, teacher Li Ruisi stayed on campus overnight for the final preparation. Because the huge workload of ICLDC event, except of the 6 simultaneous teachers, more HFSU’s English teachers joined the translation work, everyone played the spirit of dedication and made a good use of their fragmented time to help on the translation. In the afternoon of the 17th, as 24 thematic materials were not yet in place, on the way our six simultaneous interpretation teachers went to Zhengding International Exhibition Center, the Dean Wang Lifeng and Teacher Bai Jie led the volunteer students to reach out the conference speakers while they did the registration for the coming foreign guests in advance. With the perfect cooperation of the teachers and students from HFSU, the simultaneous interpretation task of the ICLDC on 17th was successfully completed!

The next day after the conference, another important agenda has arrived to us—major scenic sites tour visit in Zhengding. Teacher Zhang Qiujie and Bai Jie organized a tour guide group with the top 10 English volunteer students to guide led foreign guests to Rongguofu and other two sites. Volunteers used the little time before they slept every night and the time while drove to the sites to study and recite the guide contents, in order to offer the best tour for those foreign guides, and let them to know our Hebei better, to know our culture better, and start to love Shijiazhuang forever.

Zhang Qiujie, Bai Jie, and 10 volunteers have to handle all emergencies while the tour guiding like foreign guests were very excited and often got separated from the others. The great efforts which made by the two teachers and volunteers gain a lot confirmation and high praise from the foreign guests. Ms. Dabney Shallhoma, the Chairman of Nigeria Marine Promotion Group gave a warm hug to the tour guide Yang Wenzhuo and held the hand of her tightly along the way of the visit. Although the trip was short, but they already built up an unforgettable friendship with each other.

The 6th China International Logistics Development Conference is an important international event for the teachers and students of HFSU. From the selection of volunteers, coordinate with relevant departments, preparation, and to the participate of teachers and students, every one took their time and spared their effort, but with a very worthy affirmation from the provincial and municipal leaderships. We are excepting to see more teachers and volunteer students from HFSU participate in more large-scale international activities in the short future. In order to contribute more to our University, to Shijiazhuang, to Hebei Province, to China, and even to the whole world!
