On December 7th 2019, the Cuban Academy of Sciences held a general meeting of all academicians, which lasted for six hours. The leaders of the Cuban central government, such as the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, also attended the meeting. After the procedures of rounds of interviews by the management committee and final election of all academicians, Professor Sun Jianzhong, the Rector of Hebei Foreign Studies University (HFSU) was elected as a foreign academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. This is the honor of all teachers and students of HFSU, the pride of Hebei Higher Education Community, and a solid step for China's private higher education brand to move towards to the world science stage. HFSU has gained one more “academician” - Academician Sun Jianzhong. To date, the number of academicians in our universityhas reached 8, and HFSU has ushered in a new era for Academician Rector Sun Jianzhong.

It is reported that Academician Sun Jianzhong is the second Chinese academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. The first Chinese academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences is Chen Kuiyuan, former member of the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th CPC Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the 10th and 11th CPPCC National Committee, former President and Party Secretary of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

On December 7th, 2019, three foreign academicians from China, Germany and the United Kingdom were elected during the academician conference of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. The newly elected academician of Chinese nationality is Academician Sun Jianzhong, Rector of HFSU.

Cuba is the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with new China. 2020 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba. RectorSun Jianzhong's election as a foreign academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences at this time, is a high consensus reached by the Cuban Scientific Community. This is a high recognition of the Chinese private higher educator, a high affirmation of the characteristics of education mode of HFSU. This higher level of friendship between China and Cuba, is a new level of all-round and strategic cooperation between HFSU and Cuba.

The friendship between China and Cuba has a long history. Cuba is a good brother of China in the alliance of socialist countries and an important node country of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. Under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping's thought of building a “World Destiny Community”, inspired by the call of commander Fidel Castro to “Spread Cuba’s top-world science, health care, education philosophy, technology and experts abroad, Cuba can contribute to the health of the world and the development of all parts of the world”. Rector Sun Jianzhong as a modern Chinese private educator, manager, scientific researcher and innovation expert, not only create the Chinese brand of private education, but also devote himself to the cause of building a community of shared future of education between China and Cuba. Through this collaboration, HFSU is an ambassador to spread Cuban culture, Cuban scientific achievements, Cuban education and Cuban medical technology in China.

With the efforts of Rector Sun Jianzhong, Cuba's science, health care and education have moved to China and made the following substantive progress:
I. The International Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been established to build a world platform for Cuban Science and Technology.
With the support of the Ministry of higher education of Cuba, Hebei Foreign Studies University, together with the Central University of Las Vegas and Camaguey University of Cuba, has established the International Institute of Artificial Intelligence to jointly cultivate talents of Bachelor, Masters and PhDs in artificial intelligence. Academician Yaile, the president of the Institute is an internationally renowned young scientist who has won the computer science award of the World Academy of Sciences. Chief Councilor Rafael, Academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the founder of the world-famous AI education, is the Chief Councilor of the AI Institute. At present, the AI Institute has already employed academicians and specialists from Cuba, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, China and other countries.
The new HFSU campus, is an international high-end industrial park, occupying 140.4 hectare.The new campus has invested 110 million yuan on the international AI Research Institute, which occupies anarea of 12000 square meters. The provincial AI research laboratory and the national AI research laboratory will be built, to promote the application of AI in science and technology, education, health care, environmental protection, urban construction, modern agriculture, new energy, biomedicine, elderly health care and other fields. This project has been attached great importance to by President Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez of Cuba, and its research results will benefit both China and Cuba.

II. Build a China Cuba International Friendship Hospital and let the Chinese people share Cuba's medical achievements.
With the support of the Ministry of public health and the Ministry of higher education of Cuba, Hebei Foreign Studies University cooperates with Havana Medical University, Latin American Medical College, Camaguey Medical University, Olgin Medical University and the National School of public health to build the China Cuba International Friendship Hospital.
The hospital is a general hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, health care, rehabilitation and first aid, with a building area of 34,000 square meters and a total of 1,000 beds. It has a biomedical center, 5-star health care center, epidemic prevention center, urology (prostate cancer), breast surgery, Stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, dermatology, pediatrics, ophthalmology and other clinical and medical technologies departments. The team is composed of doctors and experts all employed by Cuban medical universities and affiliated hospitals under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, and Hebei Foreign Studies University. The aim is to introduce Cuba's high-end natural and traditional biopharmaceuticals, Cuba's diabetes vaccine, lung cancer vaccine, skin cancervaccine, prostate vaccine, breast cancer vaccine and other disease prevention and controltechnologies, as well as ophthalmology, stomatology and other medical technologies into the China-Cuba International Friendship Hospital. The Shijiazhuang China-Cuba International Friendship Hospital, will be a branch of Cuba's famous “Research Center for Disorders”, which specializes in research and treatment of disorders. It also combines the AI Research Institute of HFSU which will be conducting research on medical AI and creates a model for the combination of medicine and AI for the benefit of the people of China and Cuba.

III. Establish the Chinese branch of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and build a high-end government think tank of China and Cuba.
The China-Cuba collaborations at HFSU the first "Post-DoctoralResearch Station" established in China by the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the Cuban Academy of Historical Sciences respectively, and actively strives to build itself into the first branch of the Cuban Academy of Sciences established in China. Rector Sun Jianzhong serves as the head, of Academician Rafael, Academician Perez, Academician Yaile, Academician Pablo, Academician Ramagoshi, Academician Peikairu, Academician Shishidaowho are researchingon the “Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)”of different countries who have signed collaborations with China at the HFSU National Institute of Economic, Cultural and Social Studies. The experts from the Latin American and Caribbean Research Institute, have undertaken major national scientific research projects, and have become the think tank of the government of China and Cuba, as a strategic force in science and technology. With this venture, China and Cuba will play a key and backbone role inmaking due contributions to the China-Cuba Branch of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and Cuban Science and Technology.
